Who would you take, Lee or Sandy Koufax?
On the subject of lefthanded dominating starters who look untouchable...
The gold standard for a postseason opponent against the Yankees was by one Sandy Koufax on Oct. 2, 1963. He struck out the first five Yankees he faced: Tony Kubek, Bobby Richardson, Tom Tresh, Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. Ultimately, he struck out 15 that day, Game 1 of the World Series.
But Koufax did allow six hits in that game, two runs--a homer by Tresh in the eighth.
This is how tough Cliff Lee is, so far tonight: The Stadium crowd went wild with each foul ball hit by Nick Swisher in an 11-pitch at-bat. And there was a massive roar when Mark Teixeira (0-for-9 in this series) worked a walk. Imagine if A-Rod's liner to left had gotten past Nelson Cruz in leftfield.
Alas, it did not and the Yankees still are hitless against Lee,who has struck out seven.
