The Yankees' offseason took full swing Wednesday.

In two separate moves, the Yankees traded infielder Jose Pirela to the San Diego Padres for righthander Ronald Herrera and sent catcher John Ryan Murphy to the Minnesota Twins for outfielder Aaron Hicks, the team announced.

Herrera is a 20-year-old pitcher who split time with San Diego's Single-A and Double-A teams last season. He combined to go 8-7 with a 4.08 ERA in 145 2/3 innings over 26 games (25 starts). Herrera struck out 104, walked 42 and gave up 148 hits.

First signed by the A's in December 2011 as a non-drafted free agent, Herrera is 23-24 with a 3.79 ERA in four minor league seasons.

Pirela, 25, played in 37 games at second base and the outfield for the Yankees last season and hit .230 (17-for-74) with a home run and five RBIs. The Venezuelan, who debuted with the Yankees in 2014, originally was signed by the team as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2006.

The switch-hitting Hicks hit .256 with 11 home runs, 33 RBIs and 48 runs in 97 games with the Twins last season. The 26-year-old has played all three outfield positions during his major-league career.

The Twins drafted Hicks with the 14th overall pick in the 2008 draft, and he made his big-league debut in 2013.

For the first time in his career, Murphy spent the entire season at the major-league level in 2015. He hit .277 with three home runs and 14 RBIs in 67 games with the Yankees.

The Yankees originally selected Murphy in the second round of the 2009 draft.
