The Yankees on Friday acquired righthander Kirby Yates from the Indians for cash.
Yates, 28, is 1-2 with one save and a 5.27 ERA in 57 career relief appearances in 2014-15 with Tampa Bay.
Yates was acquired by Cleveland for cash considerations last November, but he was designated for assignment after the Indians officially announced the signing of first baseman Mike Napoli earlier this week.
The Yankees' 40-man roster stands at 38.
