Yankees call up Logan to replace injured Mitre
It was exhibit A, Joe Girardi said, why American League managers aren't fans of interleague play in National League parks.
Reliever Sergio Mitre, taking batting practice Sunday, strained his oblique muscle and was placed on the disabled list Tuesday.
Because of the Phillies' strong complement of lefthanded hitters, lefty Boone Logan was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
"Hopefully it won't be too long but we'll have to see," Girardi said of Mitre. "He did say he felt better today."
Logan, who had a good spring but didn't make the 25-man roster because Girardi chose to go with Damaso Marte as his one lefty reliever, was with the Yankees from April 20-May 23. He struggled in 13 appearances, with a 5.06 ERA in 10 2/3 innings.
In nine games and 13 2/3 innings in Scranton, Logan has a 1.32 ERA.
"That was the idea to go down there, was to get my mind cleared," Logan said. "Just get more aggressive again, start throwing the ball over the plate instead of pitching around guys. Just try my stuff and go after hitters."
Posada's foot fine
Girardi said his "original plan" was to have Jorge Posada catch and put Alex Rodriguez at DH. However, doctors wanted A-Rod to go through a full workout, which he did Tuesday, before starting him.
"Georgie's foot is good," Girardi said.
Posada caught Sunday for the first time since coming off the DL and said afterward that his right foot was sore, though in a different area than where the hairline fracture occurred.
Park gets his jewelry
Phillies GM Ruben Amaro presented RHP Chan Ho Park, a key member of the Phillies' bullpen last season, with his National League championship ring before the game.
"Sad moment when I lost but a pretty good experience," Park said. "I had a lot of fun and this ring will always remind me of that."
