Yankees could take sole possession of first
The Yankees and Rays are tied for first place in the American League East, with the Rays hosting the Twins this afternoon. The Yanks are off until tomorrow, when the Red Sox visit for a three-game series.
While Alex Rodriguez' 600th career home run helped the Yankees beat the Blue Jays on Wednesday, Tampa Bay lost to the Twins in 13 innings and fell into a tie. Wade Davis (9-9), who beat the Yankees last week, will start for the Rays. Kevin Slowey (10-5) pitches for the Twins.
The Rays will be without the home run bat of Carlos Pena, who has a sore foot. He could be available to pinch-hit.
