Yankees farm report: Dellin Betances
The Yankees intended for Dellin Betances, their eighth-round pick in the 2006 draft out of Grand Street Campus High School in Brooklyn, to pitch the entire season for Class A Tampa, but the righthander's performance forced their hand.
Betances, 22, who started this season late as he recovered from surgery on his elbow that cost him the end of last season, was 8-1 with a 1.77 ERA, 88 strikeouts and 19 walks in 71 innings and 14 starts with Tampa before being promoted to Double-A Trenton earlier this week.
The 6-8, 215-pound Betances, whose fastball can reach the high 90s, didn't seem overwhelmed in his Double-A debut Tuesday, allowing one earned run and two hits in 4 2/3 innings.
He continued to show the command he did with Tampa, walking two and striking out eight.
