Yankees fire pitching coach Dave Eiland

The Yankees fired pitching coach Dave Eiland on Monday morning.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman would not give specifics on why Eiland was fired. He did say the reason was private. Eiland missed most of June to deal with a personal issue.

Cashman said Eiland was not fired due to the team's performance in a disappointing loss in the ALCS to Texas.

Eiland was the team's pitching coach for three season, joining the coaching staff when Joe Girardi was hired as manager for the 2008 season.

Two pitchers the Yankees were counting on this season struggled badly.

Javier Vazquez, acquired in a trade from the Atlanta Braves in the winter, went 10-10 with a 5.32 ERA. Vazquez was left off the rosters for the ALDS and ALCS.

A.J. Burnett went 10-15 with a 5.26 ERA. Burnett was 6-3 with a 3.72 ERA when Eiland left the team in EARLY June. Burnett lost all four of his starts during Eiland's absence and never seemed to recover.
