The Mets and Yankees will play six Subway Series games during the 2026 regular season, including what is expected to be an emotional weekend in the Bronx from Sept. 11-13 as New York City observes the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

Major League Baseball released the 2026 regular-season schedules on Tuesday afternoon.

The first baseball game in New York City after the 9/11 attacks happened on Sept. 21, 2001, at Shea Stadium. Mike Piazza hit a historic go-ahead, two-run home run in the eighth inning as the Mets beat Atlanta, 3-2, on an emotional night.

“I think there'll be a lot of build-up to it," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “I would imagine it would be quite emotional for a lot of people. And I would imagine you'll see a lot of that emotion in the building, in the crowd, [during] the pregame ceremonies and introductions.”

In 2021, the Mets and Yankees played on the 20th anniversary at Citi Field, an 8-7 Yankees win.

“We had that a few years back, the 20th in Citi Field and I recall it well,” Boone said. “Luis Rojas was the manager of the Mets and both teams went out and . . . it was - I don’t know if ‘electric’ is the right word – but [there] was a palpable energy in the stadium.”

"It's always special," Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. "We know the meaning of Sept. 11 here. You feel it around the city and to be able to have the two teams play at the same time, it's pretty special. You know [with the] ceremonies, you can just feel it. It's a different day here in New York and now we get to do it in the Bronx.”

The first Subway Series of the 2026 season will be played at Citi Field from May 15-17.  .

The Mets will open the season on March 26 against the Pirates at Citi Field. After that three-game series , the Mets hit the road from March 30-April 5 for a seven-game trip against the Cardinals and Giants.

The Yankees will open the season in San Francisco against the Giants on March 25. After the three-game series , they'll play another three-game set in Seattle The first homestand of the season will be against the Marlins (April 3-5) and Athletics (April 7-9).
