Yankees Morning Links...
Tuesday marked the Yankees' first doubleheader that featured shutouts in both games sine Sept. 24, 1976 at Detroit's Tiger Stadium.* ...Though Javier Vazquez had a solid outing in Game 1 Tuesday, Detroit posted a 2-0 victory...but Phil Hughes dominated the Tigers in the nightcap, as the Yanks won 8-0.
Beat writer Erik Boland writes about Vazquez's "step forward" and Hughes -- the youngest Yankees starting pitcher to win his first four decisions of a season since Whitey Ford started 9-0 in 1950.
(*The Yankees dropped the first game, 3-0, and winning Game 2, 8-0, on a Grant Jackson complete-game five-hitter.)
