The fight to stay warm at Yankee Stadium was so significant on Tuesday, the Yankees decided to shorten their typically pomp-and-circumstance-infused pregame ceremonies.

The Yankees, like most major-league teams, kick off Opening Day by introducing every player on the active roster as well as the coaching staff, athletic trainers and strength coaches. Then, with those standing on the baseline, they bring out their manager and starting lineup.

But the temperature on the field was so frigid that the Yankees, and Houston Astros, cut it short.

Instead, both teams introduced only their manager and starting lineup. Then they had everyone else run onto the field and join them on the respective base lines, with no individual announcements.

Yankees spokesman Jason Zillo confirmed this was because of the cold. With a gametime temperature announced at 36 degrees, ultimately they felt there was no need to have everybody stand around in the cold any longer than they had to, regardless of baseball tradition.
