Yankees promote Kevin Whelan
The Yankees called up RHP Kevin Whelan from Triple-A Scranton before Friday night’s game. He didn’t arrive at the Stadium until about an hour before game time, so the Yanks had to wait a bit to announce that OF Chris Dickerson was sent down.
Whelan was 1-1 with a 1.67 ERA and 18 saves with Scranton. To make room for him, Joba Chamberlain was placed on the 60-day disabled list.
