The Yankees will open the 2023 season at home against the San Francisco Giants on March 30 and will end it on the road at Kansas City on Oct. 1, the team announced on Wednesday.
All 30 MLB teams released their 2023 schedules on Wednesday. The leagues are going to a balanced schedule in which each team will play the other 29 teams in at least one series.
The Yankees and Mets will play two two-game series, just as they did this year. The Yankees will visit Citi Field on June 13-14 and the Mets will come to the Bronx on July 25-26.
The other major change to the schedule is a reduction in the amount of games played against division foes. For example, the Yankees will only host the rival Boston Red Sox in two series and will visit Fenway Park twice instead of three times each as it is this year.
MLB chief operations & strategy officer Chris Marinak said in a news release: “This new format creates more consistent opponent matchups as clubs compete for postseason berths, particularly in the recently expanded Wild Card round. Additionally, this fan-friendly format provides fans with the opportunity to see more opponent matchups, with a particular focus on dramatically expanding our most exciting Interleague matchups, and offers more national exposure to the star players throughout our game.”
The Yankees’ interleague road schedule also includes visits to Cincinnati, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Colorado, Miami, Atlanta and Pittsburgh.
The other NL clubs who will come to Yankee Stadium are Philadelphia, Washington, Chicago, Milwaukee, San Diego and Arizona.
