Yankees sign Ruben Tejada

Ruben Tejada is headed back to New York, though this time with the Yankees, who signed the former Mets shortstop to a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to spring training.
Last spring, Tejada parted ways with the Mets, who had signed him out of Panama in 2006.
With the Cardinals and the Giants last season, the 27-year-old Tejada hit .167/.247/.242 in 78 plate appearances. With the Yankees, Tejada is expected to compete for a spot on the bench.
Tejada’s best seasons came while playing for the Mets from 2010 to 2015, when he hit .255/.330/.323 while playing mostly at shortstop. But during his tenure, he lost the starting job while dealing with multiple injuries.
