Amar’e Stoudemire’s older brother Hazell was killed in a car crash in Florida early Monday morning.
TMZ.com reported that Hazell Stoudemire, 35, had died on Route 27 in Lake Wales, FL.
Amar’e left the Knicks and flew to Florida to be with his family. He will miss tonight’s game against the Jazz and his status for the rest of the week is unknown.
The Knicks play in Washington Wednesday, at home against the Lakers Friday and at Minnesota Saturday.
“My thoughts and prayers are with him,” coach Mike D’Antoni said. “Anytime he needs to take he’ll take, and he’ll be in my prayers.”
Jared Jeffries will start in Stoudemir’e place tonight.
Stoudemire has three other brothers and three sisters.
