Andrea Bargnani is out indefinitely after an MRI releaved a torn ligament in his left elbow, the Knicks said.
Bargnani sustained the injury in the third quarter of last night’s loss to the 76ers. The 7-foot forward drove and was fouled as he went up for a dunk and landed hard.
Bargnani, who has started 39 games, is the Knicks’ second-leading scorer, averaging 13.3 points per game. He’s also one of just two Knicks to appear in all 42 games this season. Iman Shumpert is the other.
Losing Bargnani leaves the Knicks with a shortage of healthy big men.
Amar’e Stoudemire and Kenyon Martin are currently sidelined with ankle injuries. Jeremy Tyler has filled in the last few games backing up Bargnani and Tyson Chandler. The only other big man on the roster is Cole Aldrich
The Knicks, who will try to snap a five-game winning streak tomorrow against Charlotte, have been ravaged by injuries all season.
Metta World Peace is rehabbing after having platelet-rich plasma therapy on his knee. Chandler and Raymond Felton also have missed significant time this season.
