J.R. Smith had an awful postseason, and said he was more concerned with the Knicks playoff exit and his role in it than what Woodson apparently said at his exit meeting in May.
According to Woodson, he mentioned to Smith he wanted him to go from Sixth Man of the Year to a starter.
“I was so distraught after last year in the playoffs I didn’t even really get a chance to think about that,” Smith said. “It seemed like this year was so far away at that point, it wasn’t even in my thought process.”
Not anymore. Smith is a starter now.
