Knicks end dubious draft drought
David Lee, the 30th pick in the 2005 draft, joins a very short list of Knicks draft picks over the last 40 years that have become all-stars.
Lee's appearance in this year's game ends what will be an 18 year drought, which started with Mark Jackson, a 1989 all-star, who was drafted in 1987. Before Jackson, of course, was Patrick Ewing (1985), who was an 11-time all-star. His last appearance came in 1997, so by that alone it'll be 13 years since a Knicks draft pick played in an all-star game.
Here is a list of Knicks draft picks who became all-stars over the last 40 years:
2005 - David Lee (2010)
1987 - Mark Jackson (1989)
1985 - Patrick Ewing (1986, 1988-97)
1979 - Bill Cartwright (1980)
1978 - Michael Ray Richardson (1979-82, 1985 with Nets)
1967 - Walt Frazier (1970-76)
1966 - Cazzie Russell (1972 with Warriors)
1965 - Bill Bradley (1973)
