GREENBURGH, N.Y. - The NBA's investigation into allegations the Knicks conducted illegal predraft workouts during the Isiah Thomas era resulted in a $200,000 fine for the franchise.

The league announced Thursday that it fined the team's East Coast college scout, Rodney Heard, $20,000 for "violating league rules restricting contact between NBA teams and players eligible for the NBA Draft," according to an NBA statement. A Knicks spokesman said: "We will abide by the NBA's decision and will have no further comment."

After an Oct. 26 report by Yahoo! Sports, according to a person with knowledge of the investigation, the league found the Knicks did hold an illegal workout in 2007. Heard was hired by Thomas in 2006 and was retained by Donnie Walsh when he took over in April 2008.
