GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- With the $2.5-million "room exception'' still available, it appears the Knicks have narrowed their free-agency focus to frontcourt depth rather than adding to the backcourt.

"It's not really position we're looking for,'' Mike D'Antoni said of a shooting guard such as Michael Redd, who remains unsigned. "He's more of a two and we have a bunch of guys who can play the two. We'd like to have a little bit bigger guy that can go back to the four some.''

A possible target could be forward James Posey, who cleared waivers Friday after the Pacers cut him with their amnesty provision. Posey, 34, who was part of championship teams in Miami (2005) and Boston (2008), would fit a need as a three-point shooter and defender off the bench. Another option could be Troy Murphy, who is another "stretch the floor'' long-range shooter and a solid rebounder.

Veteran point guard Baron Davis cleared waivers Friday night. The Knicks are believed to have interest in signing him, although his agent recently said he could miss eight to 12 weeks with a lower back injury.

D'Antoni seemed to suggest the Knicks would be content to stand pat. "If it makes sense, we'll do it,'' he said, "but we're comfortable with who we have and what we're doing.''
