PORTLAND, Ore. — Mitchell Robinson, who was hoping to come back from an ankle injury when the Knicks return to the Garden to face Indiana on Friday, will instead be out indefinitely because of a strained groin.

The rookie center’s new injury was announced by coach David Fizdale at the Knicks’ morning practice before Monday night’s game against the Trail Blazers at the Moda Center.

Robinson has been out since Dec. 14 with the ankle injury. He is averaging 4.7 points and 3.9 rebounds in 28 games this season, including 12 starts.

“It’s nagging him,” Fizdale said. “He was close to getting better. I don’t think it’s a big deal, but it will keep him out a couple more games. I think he has some unfortunate luck. I love the way he plays and keeps that fly-around attitude.”

Warriors next

The Knicks haven’t won at Golden State since Dec. 12, 2015, and have lost eight straight overall to the Warriors.

Tuesday’s visit will be the Knicks’ final one to Oracle Arena. The Warriors will play at a new downtown San Francisco arena next season.

Playing the defending NBA champions as the second game of a back-to-back isn’t an easy task, but Fizdale just laughed and shrugged when asked about that aspect of Tuesday’s matchup.

“When it comes to the Warriors, it’s like for us we could have two weeks to prepare for them,” Fizdale said. “It still would be one of those games that we have to play perfect. However the schedule falls, that’s how it falls. These guys need to be able to go through all of this stuff and be able to be mentally prepared and physically prepared for these games no matter how the schedule shows up.”

Baker cut

There will be no reunion with Ron Baker when the Knicks play the Wizards in London on Jan. 17. The former Knicks guard was cut by Washington on Monday.
