Rick Brunson to join Knicks' coaching staff, source says
Rick Brunson, the father of Dallas Mavericks point guard Jalen Brunson, will be joining the Knicks' coaching staff, a league source confirmed Thursday.
Jalen Brunson is set to be an unrestricted free agent this summer and reportedly has been a target of the Knicks.
The elder Brunson has deep ties to the Knicks. Brunson was Knicks president Leon Rose’s first client when he began working as a player agent. Brunson has also been on coach Tom Thibodeau’s staffs in Chicago and Minnesota. The elder Brunson played three of his nine NBA seasons for the Knicks and was a member of the team that went to the NBA Finals in 1999.
Brunson has been the head coach at Camden High School in New Jersey since resigning from Thibodeau's Timberwolves staff in 2018. It was reported by The Athletic and ESPN that the resignation came amid allegations of harassment against Brunson.
