NEWARK -- How serious is Amar'e Stoudemire's ankle injury?
The Knicks expect him to play Tuesday against Chicago, possibly even Sunday against Indiana. But Mike D'Antoni said he would have been held out Friday night against the Nets even if the game had meant something.
Said D'Antoni: "Would he have played if we were going after first place? No. His ankle's too swollen."
Surgery for Williams
Nets point guard Deron Williams was supposed to have surgery on his right wrist Friday, but it has been rescheduled for Monday. He is expected to miss the final week of the season. The surgery will repair bone fragments and scar tissue.
Jay-Z, Nets fined
The NBA has fined the Nets $50,000 because hip-hop mogul and part-owner Jay-Z went into the Kentucky locker room after the Wildcats clinched a berth in the Final Four. League spokesman Tim Frank confirmed the fine. NBA rules prohibit team personnel from having contact with players who are not yet draft-eligible.
