The waiting is the hardest part, as Tom Petty once sang (and probably still does on occasion). But for LeBron James, perhaps the decision is even harder.

Or maybe the real truth is the decision has been made and these next few days involve the detailed preparation for the official announcement.

So far this week we've seen the official launch of James' new website, lebronjames.com, which, for now, merely instructs you to register and once you do, you are promised this: "You'll be the first to know." James' signature is under the message.

Then today comes a Twitter account, kingjames, which is verified to be the real LeBron James.

A sign that LeBron may announce his choice via the internet? Don't bet on it. LeBron's people have put too much into this for that kind of an end result. No, I expect something far more elaborate and multi-platform. This is choreographed. I honestly feel we're all -- media and fans -- being played. If you've ever seen the movie, Fresh, you'll know what I mean.

Either way, the end of this long, drawn-out journey is near. Will it be worth the trip?
