The Liberty announced on social media Monday that they have signed veteran forward Stephanie Talbot and reportedly will add coveted free agent Emma Meesseman, who will make her long-awaited return to the WNBA.
Meesseman, the 2019 WNBA Finals MVP with the Washington Mystics, has agreed to join the Liberty, according to multiple reports. Meesseman is a two-time WNBA All-Star and last played in the league in 2022 with the Chicago Sky. She has been playing professionally overseas and with the Belgium national team. Now will she help the defending champion Liberty try for a title repeat.
It’s unclear when Meesseman would join the Liberty due to the length of time her visa application process could take, the reports said.
A 6-4 forward, Meesseman gives the Liberty frontcourt depth and valuable playoff experience. Meesseman can mix and match with Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones at the power forward and center positions. Meesseman has averaged 11.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals over her eight seasons in the WNBA. A multi-talented offensive player, she has made 52% of her field goals over her career, including 37% from three, and 85% of her free-throw attempts.
Talbot has played for five teams over her seven seasons in the WNBA. She played in 16 games this season, including 10 starts, for Golden State, averaging 3.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and two assists per game. She was waived earlier this month by the Valkyries.
Talbot, at 6-2, gives Liberty coach Sandy Brondello another depth player for the frontcourt. She can also provide shooting, making 35% of her three-pointers over her career. Talbot has played for Brondello with the Australian national team.
