Mikhail Prokhorov formally became sole owner of the Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center on Wednesday when the NBA approved the transfer of ownership of shares belonging to previous partner Bruce Ratner, according to a Bloomberg News report.
The sale price is unknown, the report said, but it is believed the two transactions were coupled as part of the same deal. Prokhorov previously owned 45 percent of Barclays Center and recently bought out Ratner’s 85 percent share in Nassau Coliseum, which is undergoing renovations.
Larkin’s concussion creates manpower shortage
Backup guard Shane Larkin suffered a fall in Tuesday’s practice, was diagnosed Wednesday with a concussion and sat out Wednesday night’s game against the Heat. Larkin complained only of back and neck stiffness at the time of the injury but developed concussion symptoms later Tuesday night. CT scans for head and neck injuries were negative, but there is no timetable for his return because he must be symptom-free to enter the NBA’s return-to-play concussion protocol.
Nets coach Lionel Hollins said Markel Brown and Donald Sloan will get Larkin’s minutes depending on the situation, and starting forward Joe Johnson can help bring the ball upcourt. Larkin scored in double figures in six of his previous 14 games. His absence comes shortly after the loss of forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who underwent right ankle surgery.
Asked how he expects to adjust to the manpower shortage, Hollins said, “Just go do your job. Go out there and play. You don’t have to be Superman. Just do what the play calls for, make the right play defensively and offensively. I’m not overly concerned.
“There will be times it will be Markel. There will be times it will be Sloan. It’s just how I see the game flow and what we need. I’m not putting myself in a box about who I’m going to play . . . We’ll miss Shane’s ability to make shots probably more than anything out of all of this.”
