Nets forward Dorian Finney-Smith missed Monday’s game with a left ankle sprain and he’ll also be out Wednesday against the Suns, according to coach Jacque Vaughn.

Vaughn didn’t provide any additional information on how much time Finney-Smith would miss.

He left Saturday’s win over the Rockets in the third quarter after landing awkwardly while making a block at the rim. It cut short his best scoring game in a month as he had 19 points. It was his first double-digit scoring game since Dec. 26.

With Finney-Smith out, Cam Thomas started for the second consecutive game, a first since Dec. 26-27.

Whitehead has surgery

Dariq Whitehead had surgery Monday to deal with a left shin stress reaction that ended his season last week.

The procedure was done by Dr. Martin O’Malley, who performed Whitehead’s second foot surgery last June ahead of the NBA Draft. The Nets expect his recovery time to be approximately three months.

Vaughn didn’t say whether Whitehead would be available for NBA Summer League, typically held around July.

“I talked to him today. He was in good spirits,” Vaughn said. “He’ll stay at home today, stay home tomorrow. The hope is that he is a full participant in our offseason development.”

Sharpe remains hobbled

Day’Ron Sharpe missed his ninth consecutive game Monday and he doesn’t sound close to returning soon from a hyperextended left knee.

Sharpe, who was hurt on Jan. 7, was seen at shootaround doing light individual drills on the court. Vaughn said he’s only doing individual non-contact work with an assistant coach and hasn’t done anything with teammates.

The Nets have yet to reveal a timeline for Sharpe’s return since the initial two-week window for an update passed on Jan. 21.
