Sergey Karasev done for season with torn right MCL

Sergey Karasev won't be around to help the Nets with their floundering playoff push.
The Nets announced Wednesday night that Karasev will miss the remainder of the season after being diagnosed with a torn right MCL, a dislocated patella and multiple loose bodies in the knee joint. He's expected to have surgery Thursday at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
Karasev was injured midway through the fourth quarter of the Nets' 111-91 loss to the Pelicans Monday night on a freakish play. With a little over six minutes remaining and the outcome well in hand, Karasev was guarding Luke Babbitt and tried to get through a screen set by New Orleans center Alexis Ajinca.
He appeared to bang knees slightly with Ajinca, immediately crumpled to the floor writhing in pain and was carried off because he was unable to put any pressure on his leg. He used crutches to get around after the game and didn't travel with his teammates to South Florida for the start of this four-game, eight-day road trip.
Acquired with Jarrett Jack from the Cavaliers in July as part of the three-team trade with the Celtics, Karasev appeared in 33 contests in his first season with the Nets and started 16 games, averaging 4.6 points and two rebounds.
Anderson sits out
Alan Anderson could only serve as a cheerleader Thursday night, rooting his teammates on from the bench.
Anderson warmed up before the game but didn't play because of the bruised tailbone he suffered in the first half of Tuesday night's loss. Anderson, who was injured late in the first half and missed the second half, seemed to be moving gingerly as he hoisted jumpers about an hour before tipoff.
