BOONE, N.C. -- Juan'ya Green scored 17 points and Malik Nichols had 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead Hofstra to a 68-51 victory over Appalachian State in men's basketball Sunday at the Holmes Center.

Green scored nine points in the first half to help Hofstra build a 29-26 halftime lead. Appalachian State made it 37-36 before Dion Nesmith scored to give Hofstra a 38-37 lead with 11:46 to play, and the Pride led the rest of the way.

A 14-5 run stretched Hofstra's lead to 58-47 with 2:35 left, and the Pride shot 10-for-10 from the line to seal it.

Ameen Tanksley scored 13 points, Nesmith had 11 and Brian Bernardi chipped in 10 for Hofstra (6-2), which is off to its best start since the 2008-09 season.

Frank Eaves scored 13 points to lead Appalachian State (3-3), which shot just 18 of 53 from the floor for 34 percent.

Hofstra returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Coppin State for a 7:30 p.m. contest. From November 25 through January 16, Hofstra will play just three home games during a 14-game stretch.
