Hofstra men's basketball added Deron Powers on Wednesday afternoon, head coach Joe Mihalich announced.

Powers, who transferred from Hampton University, will have to sit out the 2015-16 season and will have one season of eligibility remaining in 2016-17.

Powers, a 5-11, 165-pound guard, averaged 10.1 points, 3.8 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game for Hampton last season, helping to lead the Pirates to the NCAA Tournament. Hampton advanced to the second round before falling to Kentucky. Powers was the MVP of the MEAC Tournament and scored 16 points in an 82-61 win over Delaware State in the championship game.
