Ferraro twins among eight in Suffolk Hall

Eight people representing six sports, plus the media, comprise the Suffolk County Hall of Fame's Class of 2012, which was announced Thursday.
Chris and Peter Ferraro of Sound Beach, identical twins who played in a total of 166 NHL games and who both played briefly for the Rangers, headline this year's inductees, who will be honored at a gala on May 3 at the West Lake Inn in Patchogue.
The others, listed alphabetically, and their qualifications are:
Dick Berg, former men's basketball coach at Dowling and Hofstra. His Dowling teams won nine conference and four NAIA district titles and made four NAIA Tournament appearances.
Mike Canobbio, current varsity baseball coach at Lindenhurst, who earned his 500th win last May and won the school's first state championship in 2010.
Anthony Famiglietti, former track star at Patchogue-Medford, who was a six-time U.S. champion in the steeplechase and two-time Olympian. He won a gold medal in the 2001 World University Games and took the bronze in the 2003 Pan Am Games.
Matt Farrago of Greenlawn, a former professional boxer who went 25-2-1 in his pro career. He is a past president of Veterans Boxers Association Ring 8, an organization that helps former fighters improve their lives after their careers in the ring.
Joe Russo, former outstanding wrestler at Lindenhurst, where he coached from 1979-2004. His teams and wrestlers won numerous league, county and state titles and he was voted league coach of the year three times.
Gregg Sarra of Ronkonkoma, current executive producer for Long Island sports at MSG Varsity and Newsday high school sports editor/columnist.
"I am extremely honored that the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame is recognizing my life's work," Sarra said. "I look around 26 years from the start of my Newsday career and see how successful so many student-athletes have become and it's incredible. It's been a rewarding career path."
