Abdul Carter, the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL Draft, signed his rookie contract with the Giants on Thursday.
His deal is for four years and worth roughly $45.2 million. It includes a $29.5 million signing bonus and a fifth-year team option. Carter’s contract is fully guaranteed.
An All-American at defensive end for Penn State as a junior, Carter finished last season with 68 tackles, 24 for loss and 12 sacks. He was voted Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
Carter headlined the Giants’ seven-player draft class. He’s the fourth Giants draft pick to sign his rookie deal. Carter joined offensive lineman Marcus Mbow, a fifth-round pick, tight end Thomas Fidone II and cornerback Korie Black — both of whom were taken in the seventh round.
The Giants restructured the contract of edge rusher Brian Burns in order to get under the cap to sign Carter, according to ESPN. The Giants converted $10 million of Burns’ base salary into a signing bonus to clear space.
