Better quarterback? Probably. Better team? Nope.
Former Giants wide receiver Amani Toomer made news in early July during a SiriusXM Radio interview when he said Dallas quarterback Tony Romo was "probably the best quarterback in the NFC East" -- a group that includes Eli Manning, the reigning Super Bowl MVP who threw 17 touchdowns to Toomer in their four seasons as teammates.
But the 13-year Giant still believes New York has the better team, and thus predicted a 21-17 Giants win in Wednesday night's opener while serving as a guest coach at an NFL youth event at Chelsea Waterside Park in Manhattan on Tuesday.
"There's a whole team out there; it's not just two people," Toomer said.
When asked if the Giants would win the NFC East this year, Toomer said: "They have a shot. I wouldn't count the Cowboys out, though. I think they're a team that has the motivation in terms of how the owner [Jerry Jones] is really pushing them to get over the hump. And they were only one game away from [winning the division] last year. There's a whole cluster of three teams, including Philadelphia, that can win the NFC East."
