Prince Amukamara missed all of last year’s offseason workouts because there weren’t any. The lockout took that away from him as a rookie. This year, it’s his foot that is holding him back.

Amukamara broke a bone on his foot in early August and had an injection procedure done to prompt bone growth in the area in February, but the first-round pick of the 2011 draft class said he’s still not going “full full” speed in this minicamp.

“I guess the role right now is I’m still not going full full but I’m still getting reps in 7-on-7 and team (drills),” Amukamara said. “Just not taking all of the reps. Just gradually working in there. Don’t want any setbacks over these next couple of days, being smart about it but still getting me the reps that I need.”

Amukamara said it is just a matter of being cautious and focusing on the start of training camp.

“We don’t want any hiccups these next two days,” he said.

Other Giants who are unlikely to participate fully in the minicamp include:

S Tyler Sash who pulled his hamstring at last week’s OTA. He said he doesn’t have the burst he needs to play in the minicamp but expects to be ready for Albany.

WR Hakeem Nicks is sidelined with a broken bone in his fifth metatarsal, but he walked through the locker room without a boot or any visible form of protection or support on the area. He said he’s a fast healer. I guess he’s right. He might be back before Amukamara!

DT Markus Kuhn is still trying to get his work visa situation cleared up so he can practice. Until then, he’s on the sideline by order of the U.S. Government.

DT Shaun Rogers has an elbow injury that has kept him from OTAs and Tom Coughlin said he’s unlikely to participate this week.

T Will Beatty said he injured his back with some overzealous weighlifting earlier this offseason. He’s feeling better and should participate in some drills. “They’re going to try to put me in on some things,” he said. “We’re not going to just jump into the fire.”

Coughlin gave TE Martellus Bennett (hamstring) a 50-50 chance of participating in the practice this afternoon.
