ARVELL REESE
1. Pro ready
Reese is well-versed in what to expect in a pro-style defense. His defensive coordinator at Ohio State was Matt Patricia, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Patriots. At 20 years old, the ceiling is high for Reese, who won't turn 21 until Aug. 30.
2. Reese can be deployed numerous ways
He was used as a hybrid linebacker, blitzer, run stopper and in coverage. Reese became Ohio State’s first consensus All-American linebacker since his position coach James Laurinitis earned it three times (2006-08).
3. Reese’s high school coach produced another NFL player
At Glenville High School in Cleveland, Reese played for Ted Ginn Sr., father of Ted Ginn Jr., an NFL receiver for 14 years.
FRANCIS MAUIGOA
1. Durable, versatile talent
Mauigoa started every game the last three seasons at right tackle and was an All-American last season at Miami. If he moves to guard, that durability is critical after the Giants had Greg Van Roten play every snap at right guard the last two seasons.
However, he’s projected to be a guard, a position the Giants need to shore up long-term.
2. MetLife connection
Mauigoa has family ties in New York. His brother, Francisco, was drafted by the Jets in the fifth round at linebacker. Expect to see plenty of the Mauigoa family at MetLife Stadium next season.
3. Athletic background
Mauigoa played volleyball and rugby growing up and that’s helped develop his footwork. Miami even used him as a pass catcher when he rumbled for a 3-yard touchdown catch. It’s that athleticism that makes him a top prospect.
