Will Beatty will be practicing today.

The left tackle said that he expects to suit up after missing about a week’s worth of action due to sciatic nerve issues in his back.

“I’m going out there today and see what I’m feeling,” Beatty said. “Time off, body feels good and we’ll see how the back feels during an actual practice. Prayfully going good, the Lord healed me, and I’ll be out there in the Jets game.”

Beatty said it was difficult watching the first preseason game from Albany (even tougher because he had bad reception in the dorms).

“It was a preseason game, so I was like, ‘Okay,’” Beatty said. “But my thing is make sure I get back out there and make sure I’m in a few of the preseason games so when we play Dallas, I’m not, ‘Oh, he’s feeling better and he’s playing Dallas’ (but rather) ‘He had some practice in the preseason game and they’re going to Dallas.’ I’m trying to work on that path.”

Back to the dorms for a second. As you might imagine, for a guy with a back issue, nevermind a 320-pound guy with a back issue, sleeping on a dorm mattress is difficult.

“It’s not home,” Beatty said with a sigh. “You spend a lot of money getting your house right and then you come here and it just ain’t the same. I hit up Wal-Mart a few times, got some tempurpedic toppers, your own blankets and, eh, it’s not the same. Fortunately I got a full-size bed. Some of the guys are in twin beds. So I can roll over once or twice and not fall off.”

“You’re in camp mode, so you know you’re not at home, you’re in a different environment,” Beatty said of sucking up in the face of the discomfort of his sleeping arrangements (which could be worse; James Brewer has a twin mattress). “You have to fight through it. You can’t blame it on a bed that you can’t practice. It’s your job to practice and be out there for whatever. So there are no excuses.”
