Boothe works, Osi rides and Brian Jackson returns
A few other notes from practice:
Shaun O’Hara was, in fact, practicing and appeared to be doing so fully. Osi Umenyiora was sitting on the exercise bike in accordance with his weekly maintenance plan for his knees and hip. He didn’t seem to be pedaling very vigorously.
Brian Jackson was back on the field and seemed to be full-go. Keith Bulluck was working in everything we watched. It was hard to tell what the deal was with Lawrence Tynes. He wasn’t really doing anything, but then again he never does while we’re there unless they work on kickoffs or returns. They were not.
Madison Hedgecock was also sidelined. Tom Coughlin said he is still fighting with his hamstring injury.
The biggest surprise to me was that Kevin Boothe was practicing. The Giants have opened the window for his return to the 53-man roster, even with the addition of tackle Jamon Meredith off waivers this week. The Giants might very well have the deepest backup tackles in the league. They have Shawn Andrews who has been playing well as the 6th lineman lining up as a tight end, then they have Boothe, Will Beatty, and now Meredith. It’s possible that the next three weeks will be a battle between Boothe and Meredith for the final spot on the roster.
Then again, with three weeks before Boothe is activated or put on season-ending IR, his window might also be the window on Mathias Kiwanuka making progress with his bulging disc.
