Tom Coughlin took the team out last night for an evening of bowling and billiards in Manhattan. But even that break from the grind of training camp was executed with an aim towards bettering the team.
“We wanted to do it this year because we have so many new guys, so many young guys, we needed a little team-building kind of a session,” Coughlin said. “We thought that was a good idea, and it was a good idea.”
Coughlin has been known to do that sort of thing, most notably in 2007 when the softer side of him first debuted. But he doesn’t do it every year, which makes such outings special.
“It was a surprise for them last night,” Coughlin said.
The highlight was when the DJ at the venue played the Eli Manning "Football On Your Phone" video on all of the screens throughout the room.
So did Coughlin accomplish what he wanted to from the field trip?
“They had a good time last night,” he said. “They enjoyed themselves. They were appreciative.”
And how did he bowl?
“Lousy at best.”
