Over the years the Giants have marveled at Ahmad Bradshaw's ability to make something out of nothing on the football field. When all the holes are clogged, he still manages to find a way to make progress.

Now that many of the openings on his free agency menu are closing up, the Giants still hope he will return to them. But even the idea of a homecoming could soon vanish. Free-agent running back Jason Snelling will visit the Giants Monday, sources confirmed, and he could be a replacement for Bradshaw in the backfield.

Bradshaw was said to be receiving interest from the both the Bengals and the Redskins Sunday, but both situations dried up when those teams signed other running backs (the Bengals re-inked Cedric Benson and the 'Skins traded for Arizona's Tim Hightower).

Still, there's little urgency for Bradshaw or the team. He has the Giants' offer in hand but neither he nor any free agent back the Giants bring in can practice until Thursday.

Giants go Carr shopping

David Carr, who was a popular backup quarterback for Eli Manning for two years, is returning to the team and will compete with veteran Sage Rosenfels for the job.

Carr cannot practice until free agents are cleared on Thursday.

Punting duel

Matt Dodge didn't expect to be the only punter in training camp, and he said he's excited to be competing against former Jet Steve Weatherford.

"To be shocked would be dumb on my part," said the second-year punter who struggled as a rookie, including the infamous punt to DeSean Jackson that ended the collapse against the Eagles.

Giant steps

WR Ramses Barden, who is on the PUP and recovering from ankle surgery in March, said the team is being cautious and he could "do some things" if the team allowed him to practice. They are not, though, and he does not have a timetable for his return. He is still not running on the side at practices either . . . The Giants added C Adam Koets to the PUP. The decision was made Saturday but after the 4 p.m. filing deadline so it was made official Sunday . . . First-round pick CB Prince Amukamara remains unsigned two days after general manager Jerry Reese said a deal was close . . . Recently-released C Shaun O'Hara is reportedly visiting the Dolphins as a free agent.
