After last year, it’s hard to believe that Andre Brown is now known as “the healthy guy.”

With Jacobs dealing with his shrug-induced neck injury and D.J. Ware sidelined with his second concussion in nine months, the depth chart in the backfield now had Ahmad Bradshaw at the top and Brown at number 2.

In the game against the Steelers he did OK: 61 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown.

“I thought there were times in the game when Andre did a real good job,” Tom Coughlin said. “There were other occasions when it looked like we could have had a little more. But as the game went on he got better and better.”

“The same thing on kickoff (returns),” Coughlin added. “That second kickoff return was pretty good, pretty powerful.”

Brown said he’s getting used to the timing of running in the NFL.

“In the league you just have to hit it,” he said. “It’s like a real quick revolving door. It opens and it closes and you have to hit it when it’s open. If not, as soon as you pause you get tackled.”

A year ago Brown missed the entire season with a ruptured Achilles. Now he’s the second running back on the team.

“Last year was so long and now to actually sit in here and go out there with the guys and have fun with the guys is totally different and I’m just enjoying every moment of it,” he said.

As for his touchdown, a leaping effort over the pile from the 1, Brown said he crossed the plane. The play was reviewed and the touchdown was upheld even though there were some angles where it looked as if he might have lost the ball before getting in.

“Hey, it was reviewed,” he said with a big grin. “Yeah, I got in. I broke the plane. I know I have a pretty good vert. We were a yard to go. I know if I leaned forward I would have scored a touchdown.”
