Cornerback Bruce Johnson, who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery last week, was placed on injured reserve, ending his season. To fill his roster spot, the Giants were awarded defensive end Alex Hall, who was with the Giants in training camp, off waivers from the Arizona Cardinals.

When DE Mathias Kiwanuka was placed on injured reserved last week, the Giants claimed DB Will Blackmon on waivers from Green Bay. So, in effect, the roster balance on the defensive line and in the secondary has been maintained. But Blackmon appears likely to be active for Sunday's game in Seattle if the Giants want to get a look at him returning punts and kickoffs.

Hall, 25, might be more of a depth addition. He played for Cleveland in 2008 and 2009 but was traded to Philadelphia last April 2 and then waived on July 28 before moving to the Giants the following day. In three preseason games with the Giants, Hall totaled eight defensive tackles and one special teams tackle. He missed the preseason finale with a shoulder injury and received an injury settlement when he was waived on Sept. 4. Hall was with the Cardinals for four games but was inactive for all of them.
