Coughlin gives Bradshaw run of confidence
Brandon Jacobs started for the Giants at running back last Sunday and had 14 carries. Ahmad Bradshaw came off the bench and had nine carries with four receptions. And that's the way Tom Coughlin would like to keep it: Just about even.
The Giants plan on starting Jacobs at running back again this week when they face the Redskins.
"But Ahmad is very much in the hunt," Coughlin said, noting that the way the game is played out will determine who gets more touches.
Jacobs might have gotten the first carry of the game, but it was Bradshaw who got the last one. The Giants didn't need to run the ball; they could have taken a knee and run out the clock. But Coughlin put the ball in Bradshaw's hands on that crucial snap, even though fumbling was the reason Bradshaw lost his starting job.
"By design," Coughlin said of the decision. "To say we have faith in him."
Ross injury unclear
A battery of tests on Aaron Ross revealed no trauma or damage to any organs after the cornerback had been complaining of pain in his midsection since last week, leaving the Giants unsure of what is ailing him. "There is a strong feeling that there is some kind of strain there, a back strain of some kind," Coughlin said.
Ross was able to play last Sunday against the Jaguars, but had to leave the game late with discomfort. Earlier this week he said he was still experiencing pain and was having tests to check his stomach and kidneys. He was on the field for the start of practice Wednesday but was listed as limited.
