Coughlin on Cruz: The clock is running

Tom Coughlin got one of his missing wide receivers back today. Now he’s waiting for the other.
“I’ve been optimistic since day one and it hasn’t gotten me anywhere, has it?” Coughlin said about having to wait out negotiations between the Giants and Victor Cruz. “I’ll just continue to be that way.”
If Cruz is on the field in July when training camp starts, then chances are he’ll not have missed much. But Coughlin, of course, is concerned about every missed opportunity for improvement.
“The clock is running,” he said. “The calendar dates are going by, fellas. This is something that at least we could have benefited by, if nothing else, this minicamp. But you have to realize that there is no contract at this time. So without a contract he’s not going to be here.”
