Da’rel Scott may have picked a great time to have a breakout performance, rushing for 25 yards on 4 carries, having a rushing touchdown overturned, and catching a 6-yard touchdown pass. But he refused to see it that way.

“That’s not good timing,” Scott said of the injury to Andre Brown that probably opened up opportunities for all of the running backs on the roster. “That’s one of our backs and I wish the best for him and I’m going to keep praying for him. I don’t want to get the job like that because we all look out for each other.”

Still, Scott has a better chance at sticking with the Giants past this weekend thanks to his performance and the injury. Tom Coughlin named him first when asked about the running backs on the roster who could see more playing time with Brown out for the foreseeable future. “I was impressed by Da’rel,” he said. “Da’rel ran the ball well tonight, he ran hard.”

Scott said he didn’t know that Brown had fractured his leg until after the game.

“I kept asking because I was worried about him,” Scott said, “but I didn’t get the news until after. We just went out there to play hard for him.”

Scott said he “100 percent” had to put up an impressive performance if he wanted to make the team. “I had to because I really didn’t do anything (this preseason),” he said. “This was the game, even though it was the last game, I had to show the organization that I deserve to be here.”

He’s still not sure he will be. “It’s always a numbers game,” he said. But he definitely has a better chance with Brown injured than he would have with him healthy. Now he hopes he can be part of the team that replaces Brown.

“No matter what we’re going to have his back,” Scott said. “Me, David (Wilson), (Ryan) Torain, (Michael) Cox, we’re going to have his back no matter what until he gets back and hopefully he comes back soon because we need him.”
