David Diehl's DWI date conflicts with camp

Giants lineman David Diehl, who was arrested on Sunday night after he smashed his BMW into several parked cars on a narrow Astoria street, was charged Monday morning with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. Diehl is scheduled to return to Queens Criminal Court on July 26, the same day the Giants report to training camp.
According to the criminal complaint, Diehl had a blood alcohol level of .182, more than twice the legal limit. If convicted, he could face up to a year in jail or a fine of $1,000. His driver's license is suspended in New York pending prosecution.
"Luckily, no one was injured," Queens district attorney Richard A. Brown said in the press release. "Drinking and driving is never a good idea -- and can often have serious consequences."
Diehl, a first-time offender, will likely not be fined or suspended by the Giants or the NFL. He is expected to be at the start of minicamp on Tuesday.
Diehl, 31, is the longest-tenured Giant and a 10-year veteran who has started and played in 140 regular season games for the Giants. He is the first Giants player to be arrested for DWI since Kareem McKenzie in 2008. Ironically, Diehl is expected to be the player who replaces McKenzie at right tackle this season for the Giants.
"I'm obviously concerned about my friend and I feel bad for him that he's going through this," Giants quarterback Eli Manning said Monday at the 35th annual Guiding Eyes for the Blind Golf Classic at Mt. Kisco Country Club. "I wish nothing had happened, but besides that, I'm just hoping everything gets worked out and he'll be OK."
