They say that for guys who are on the roster bubble, special-teams play is the best was to make the cut. If that's the case, Devin Thomas and Greg Jones can start making plans to stick around.

The offense scored two first-half touchdowns to forge a 20-6 lead in their 41-13 win, but the two drives totaled 37 yards thanks to the special teams.

First, Thomas returned a kickoff 73 yards, thanks to a key block by Michael Clayton, to the Bears' 31. Four plays later, Brandon Jacobs took a handoff up the middle, juked Major Wright to the turf, and scored on an 18-yard run. It was the first offensive touchdown of the season for the Giants.

Jones' play came later in the second quarter. He blasted through the line and straight up the middle to block a punt by Adam Podlesh. Jones tumbled on the loose ball, rolled to his feet, and was stripped of the ball at the 6. Jacquian Williams scooped it up from there and took it into the end zone for an apparent touchdown, but inside the final two minutes, a team cannot advance its own fumble.

"The whole time, I was struggling blocking my man and I told Coach that he was getting out to cover the punts really fast," Jones said. "I said, 'Coach, I can get in there if you let me blitz. If you let me go get it.' "

David Carr hit Domenik Hixon on a fade for a touchdown two snaps later.

Osi 'fed up' but happy

Osi Umenyiora told ESPN before the game that he is no longer disgruntled but: "I am fed up with the contract talk." He also said his rehabilitation from arthroscopic knee surgery is coming along "faster that I thought." He is expected to miss 3-4 weeks. "I am committed to playing for the Giants for the rest of the season," Umenyiora told ESPN. "Returning to [the] field for three practices last week was a reminder of what I enjoy and love to do."
