Devin Thomas made an impression as a kickoff returner on Monday, taking one 73 yards and averaging 46.0 per attempt against the Bears. “I liked what I saw,” Tom Coughlin said. “He had fire in his eyes and explosion out there.”

But Thomas, who is playing with a heavy wrap on his dislocated right pinkie that prevented him from switching the football to the outside hand and gaining even more yards on his long return, said he’s not taking the position for granted.

“Until I make that [53-man roster] and they put me back there in the first game against them ‘Deadskins,’ then I will say it's my job," Thomas said, jabbing the team that drafted him in the second round of 2008 and the Giants’ opening day opponent this season.
