The Giants’ backup quarterback is … David Diehl?

Well, as far as the March of Dimes is concerned he is. Diehl, who is a Giants offensive lineman (which is about as specific as we can get about his position on the field right now), will stand in for Manning at the March for Babies in Manhattan on Sunday. Manning usually participates in the event but he had a scheduling conflict this year so Diehl is doing what David Carr never got a chance to do in 2011: Stepping in for Eli.

Diehl and Venus Williams (no relation to Gregg) will headline the event which draws over 10,000 for a 3.5 mile walk that starts at 63rd St. and Columbus Ave. and ends at 23rd St. and Madison Ave. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m.

Now in its 43rd year, March for Babies was the first charity walk event in the country. March for Babies is held in over 900 communities across the nation with over 7 million people participating. Dollars raised go to support programs of research, advocacy, community programs and education to help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies, and to support the March of Dimes prematurity campaign. The fundraising goal for New York City this year is $3 million. For more information and to register visit www.marchforbabies.org or call 212.353.8357.
