A few other nuggets from today’s conference call and other areas:

Tom Coughlin said Phillip Dillard’s hamstring strain will have him “day to day,” although it seems unlikely he’ll be ready to play next Sunday against the Panthers.

Coughlin also said that he was pleased with Mario Manningham’s punt returns last night and that they held D.J. Ware out of kickoff returns to give him a break following his concussion less than two weeks ago. It sounded as if Ware will be taking the first kickoff of the season this year, though, and will probably be the third running back. That’s especially true with Andre Brown in a boot after being a late scratch with turf toe last night.

Antrel Rolle was fined $7,500 by the NFL for “unnecessary roughness” on his hit on Ravens receiver Mark Clayton last Saturday. He was flagged for hitting a defenseless player in the head and Clayton was left with a concussion.

Coughlin could not say whether Shaun O’Hara or Aaron Ross would be available this week. Both have been in casts, O’Hara for Achilles tendonitis and Ross for a torn plantar fascia. “We’ll see,” Coughlin said.

He also said they expect to have Travis Beckum on the field this week after he had to return to the sideline with a lingering neck injury last week.
