Domenik Hixon waived to go on IR
Wide receiver and kick returner Domenik Hixon, who recently tore a knee ligament during a minicamp workout at New Meadowlands Stadium, was placed on waivers today for the purpose of putting him on injured reserve. Hixon has to clear waivers first to go on IR and open up a roster spot.
The Giants signed Adam Jennings, a four-year veteran wide receiver out of Fresno State, to take Hixon's place. Jennings was a sixth-round pick by Atlanta in 2006 and also has played for Detroit. The 5-9, 176-pounder has averaged 22.4 yards on 25 kickoff returns in the NFL and 6.2 yards on 54 punt returns. He spent all but one game of last season on IR in Detroit.
Hixon underwent knee surgery about two weeks ago and is out for the season. He was the Giants' primary punt and kickoff return man last season after failing to hold on to a starting wideout position.
