The Giants and John Harbaugh lost out on hiring Todd Monken as offensive coordinator, but Harbaugh is continuing to fill out his staff.
He is expected to hire Donald D’Alesio as defensive backs coach, a league source confirmed to Newsday. D’Alesio was with the Ravens last season in the same capacity.
D’Alesio also spent four seasons with Kansas City from 2021-24, with the last three as safeties coach. He was part of two of KC’s Super Bowl wins.
Kansas City was D’Alesio’s first NFL job after working for Youngstown State in various roles (2015-19) and then as a defensive analyst for LSU in 2020.
D’Alesio is the sixth known assistant Harbaugh has hired.
Dennard Wilson, formerly with the Titans, was hired as defensive coordinator and Chris Horton followed Harbaugh to become the Giants’ special teams coordinator after being with the Ravens in the same capacity since 2019.
Willie Taggart also is joining the Giants’ staff after serving as the Ravens’ running backs coach the previous three seasons.
Tim Kelly and Charlie Bullen were retained from last season and are expected to resume their duties coaching tight ends and outside linebackers, respectively.
Harbaugh’s challenge now is to find an offensive coordinator after Monken, who was expected to follow him from Baltimore, was hired as the Browns’ head coach on Wednesday.
The Giants reportedly have requested interviews with Broncos passing game coordinator Davis Webb, Colts passing game coordinator Alex Tanney and Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter.
Webb and Tanney are former Giants quarterbacks. Tanney, 38, was on the team from 2018-20. Webb, 31, was drafted by the Giants in 2017 and was on the team again in 2022 when he made his first and only NFL start.
Webb also could remain with the Broncos, who have a vacancy at offensive coordinator. He withdrew his name from consideration for the Raiders' head coaching job, according to ESPN.
